Admire
Designed and built in the 1780's, Tardif reflects the neoclassical architectural style popular with the French aristocracy at the time. Luminous sandstone from the region's renowned quarries was sculpted into majestic columns, balustrades and other decorative elements.
The hôtel particulier is comprised of a central structure set between the vast private garden on one side and the courtyard on the other. Lateral wings and a street-side structure wrap around this cobblestoned cour d'honneur, when horse-drawn carriages ushered in distinguished guests.
TARDIF interiors were fit out with hardwood floors, stone and marble fireplaces and wood panelling. The sweeping open curve of the main staircase makes it one of the region's most lovely examples of late 18th century woodworking craftmanship. Other decorative details hail from later trends: the Napoleonic period, the return of the monarchy, the second half of the 19th century...
